Barry Chandler began square dancing in the mid-1970s and has remained a dedicated and hardworking member of the square dance community ever since. Over the decades, Barry has held numerous executive positions at club, state, and national levels, including with the local club, state convention committees, the Tasmanian Callers Association, and the Tasmanian Square Dance Society.

At the national level, Barry has made a significant impact, serving two terms as President of the National Square Dance Society and several years as a State Delegate. He has attended over 42 National Conventions and has contributed to more than 10 National Convention Committees—five of those as Convenor or Co-Convenor, now marking his sixth. Notably, Barry served as Chairman of the Australian National Square Dance Convention Board for 16 years.

Barry was the first Tasmanian appointed as a Leader/Teacher with ARDA and has proudly represented Tasmania in numerous Showcase Rounds, including the first victory for Tasmania in Perth in 1978. His outstanding service has been recognized with Life Membership from the Tasmanian Square Dance Society in 1993, induction into the National Roll of Honour in 2002, and appointment as a Life Patron of the National Square Dance Conventions in 2005.

Known for his quiet and unassuming manner, Barry is widely respected as a “quiet achiever.” With a professional background in management and as a qualified accountant, Barry brings a high level of organization and professionalism to all aspects of his roles.
